Short

Newport Rocketry is the student-run rocketry club at Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington. Long

Newport Rocketry is the student-run rocketry club at Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington. Students design their rockets in CAD and simulation, build and test them by hand, and fly them on weekends at 60 Acres Park in Redmond. No experience is needed to join: Legacy teams pass their skills down to new members, and new students can start Rookie teams of their own.

Newport teams compete in the American Rocketry Challenge, where a rocket has to carry two raw eggs to exactly 800 feet and bring them back intact in 37 to 40 seconds. A Newport team finished second in the nation in 2015. In 2022, Newport took first and second place at the National Finals, the best two scores among 99 finalists from 724 teams in 41 states, then placed second in the world at the International Rocketry Challenge at the Farnborough International Airshow in England. In 2026, Team Fusion finished sixth in the nation.

The club is dedicated to its longtime mentor Bruce Buswell (1956–2026), honored as an outstanding mentor of the year in 2024.
